Philosopherock
What do you get when you merge Nicolas Flamel’s Philosopher’s Stone with the genius of three parodying sisters? Philosopherock, made up of Ravenclaw Kelly, Slytherin Jessica and Hufflepuff Claire - with the help of their uncle Bruce, a professional guitar player - writes and plays filks, or parodies of popular music, about the Harry Potter books. As they explain their origin,
We’d heard a lot of wizard rock (both original songs and parodies), and then we happened upon the band Moosebutter. They do strictly parodies, on every topic imaginable, with tight, beautiful harmonies that just make the songs funnier… We decided that since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and since parody is the highest art form, we would take our inspiration from the music that pervades our everyday lives. That is to say, we take the most infamous popular songs and try to match them up with a perfect Harry Potter character, event, or subject, and then just let the humor flow.
Although Philosopherock’s parodies vary in type of music, their own takes on the songs are nothing less than pure wizard rock.
