Wizard Rock ART Throbs

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

…Okay, okay! Lame pun, I know. Sorry.

So, the real purpose of this post is just to shamelessly plug my DeviantART account.
As you may know by now, I’m a huge fan of artistic expression (it’s in my blood)! So, I decided back in April to join the wide world of DeviantART, and keep track all those wonderful people who combine the awesomeness of wizard rock with visual aesthetics. For the past four months, I have been floating around DeviantART, favoriting all the wizard rock-inspired Deviations I can, in an attempt to create a sort of collective: a one-stop place to find all artwork of, about, or inspired by wizard rock! As of now, I have dug up 328 rockin’ Deviations, all inspired by the wizard rock scene!

I have recently started a new monthly (or something-ly) tradition: every month, I’d like to spotlight a new artist, on my DeviantART profile. The catch (because there are so many potentially-spotlightable wizard rock artists out there, that I want to narrow the playing field down a bit)? Come up with a piece of artwork featuring me, Rocky the Wizard Rock Ridgeback, and you’ll have a chance to win eternal glory (or at least a month of it. Via my DeviantART page.)!

  • All art will be considered.
  • Art doesn’t expire (meaning: if you do artwork of me and aren’t spotlighted this time around, you’re still in the running for the spotlight until you do get it. Sometimes I’ll spotlight someone with new artwork, sometimes I’ll dig up older stuff. I like to switch things up a bit.)
  • To ensure that I find you: either enter my name, the term “wizard rock”, or something similar in the keywords, so I can find it when I do my periodic searches. Or, better yet, send me a link via a note, so I can add the Deviation to my favorites and keep track (I view my favorite Deviations, like, always).
  • Have fun.
  • Rock on.

The Artist-of-the-Moment for the Month of August (and partially the month of July, because Death Eaters like to drag stuff out a bit, if youknowwhatImean) is…
…Emuh, of Bella and the Deatheaters, for the Deviation “Rocky Rocks”!

OH! And just remember: I add all wizard rock-ish Deviations to my favorites: concert photos, fan signs for wizard rockers, lyrics, drawings of wizard rockers, drawings of characters inspired by wizard rock songs, wallpapers, avatars, and more!
   Drop me a line!

Blake Lewis Rockin’ At Hogwarts!

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

American Idol FINALIST (zomgwow!), Blake Lewis, wasn’t always singing on national television! Prior to his Idol glory, he did a number of comedy videos with Seattle-based improv group, Cupcake…including the Harry Potter Rap, where Blake gets down with dementors in a rap about Harry playing the field at Hogwarts!

Check out Blake in his wizarding gear! (er…and a wig/fake teeth–he’s in character, folks!)

Blake Scores Place In Idol Top Four!

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

WizardRock.Org congratulates BLAKE LEWIS, for his victory into American Idol’s TOP FOUR!

blake_shot2.jpg    Tuesday night, Blake Lewis rocked the house with a phenomenally unique interpretation of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love A Bad Name”–a performance in which Bon Jovi himself dubbed an “adventurous rendition”, and judge Randy Jackson praised as “the most original interpretation of a song ever on American Idol“.
In a double-edged elimination show Wednesday night, Lewis took his place with the Final Four, and became American Idol’s sole remaining male contestant this season.

You can help Blake make it through to the finals, by tuning into American Idol Tuesday nights on FOX, at 8:00 (7 Central), and power-voting for him, via the toll-free number that is announced at the end of the show.

Oh! And because I’m sure many of you visitors are currently shouting something along the lines of “How does this even remotely relate to Wizard Rock, you self-indulgant jerk!?”…
Shortly prior to his recent Idol glory, Blake Lewis was one of the handful of creative minds behind Cupcake’s parodical music video, “The Harry Potter Rap”.

Try spotting Blake in the video (he’s a backup dancer)! (HINT: Black cap.)

Rocky Invades DeviantART!

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

In an effort to awknowledge, support, and create a special place for networking among the artists in the Wizard Rock scene, our spokesdragon, Rocky, has signed himself up for a DeviantART account!

Rocky will be periodically logging on to DeviantART each week, to search for and favorite drawings, paintings, sketches, cover art, comics, fiction, photos, and any other artistic pieces that have to do with wizard rock! The goal? To create a one-stop archive for fans to look up artwork inspired by this awesome genre and connect with people who share the same interests!
As the population of wizard rockers and fans of the wizard rock movement continues to grow, so does the amount of wizard rock-related artwork (despite the fact that it’s a bit hard to find). Rocky is still scouring DeviantART for more artwork to add to his favorites! However, if Rocky hasn’t gotten to you yet, send him a note, so he can add your wizard rock-inspired art the next time he logs on!

Stay inspired! And keep on rocking!

‘Potter Rap’ Editor Sails Through To Top Eight!

Friday, April 6th, 2007

WizardRock.Org congratulates Harry Potter Rap co-creator/editor, Blake Lewis, for his placement in American Idol’s Top Eight!

Blake Lewis, 25, who co-created and edited the music for The Harry Potter Rap, Moist Cupcake Entertainment’s musical spoof of the Harry Potter series, has scored a place in the hearts of fans, swiping a spot in American Idol’s Top Eight.
Tuesday, Lewis kicked off the night in style, with a sassy rendition of Bobby Darin’s “Mack the Knife”. On Wednesday’s results show, he sailed through to the next round: not quite ranking with the top three contestants, yet maintaining a comfortable distance from the bottom three.

Whether a great effort in producing a full-length album or a helping hand in creating a parodic music video, WizardRock.Org acknowledges all additions to the Internet’s collection of Harry Potter-centric music (self-proclaimed “wizard rock” or otherwise). Likewise, we acknowledge and thank Blake Lewis for his part (great or small) in expanding the world of music based on literature.
Lewis returns to American Idol on FOX Tuesday night, April 10th, at 8/7 C.

If you missed the Harry Potter Rap, here’s another chance to check it out!
